Points Calculations

Did you ever wonder how points are calculated for year end results.  Tricia and I tried to write up something that would answer some of your questions.  While writing this we discovered that although we understand how it works, it's not that simple to write something that will be understood and interpreted correctly.  Soooo, in no particular order here's how it works.

Finish Position Points

Points are awarded based on the number of entries per class. The winner gets the number of entries plus 50 plus 1. Second gets 50 plus the number of entries minus one. Third gets 50 plus the number of entries minus 2 and so forth.

Rain Points

All drivers who are paid entries at a rain event will receive 60 plus the number of entries. You do not have to be at the track to receive rain points, but you must pre-enter or enter at the track on the event weekend.

2003 Bonus Points

Bonus points are awarded for entering all races in a class for the season. If a driver pays for a class entry in every event even if he/she does not grid at the event that counts as an entry for bonus points. If a driver has a paid entry in each race for the year for a class, the driver will be awarded 10 bonus points.

There are bonus points awarded for entry into the last race of the season. Entry into the last scheduled race of the season earns 30 bonus points in the class entered.

Disqualification

If a driver is disqualified from a race, they will receive a minus 2 for points. This minus 2 can not be dropped when calculating the season final points. That race may be counted as your one dropped race but the minus 2 will be deducted from the points total for the season.

Season Points Total

Season points totals are calculated by using the best 4 out of 5 finish position points. Disqualification points are deducted from the total points. Bonus points are added to the total finish position points. In case of a tie for first place in a class the driver who had the highest number of finish points dropped is the winner. If the dropped points do not break the tie then the win goes to the highest position finisher in the last event.

Lets look at an example...

This shows the points awarded for each driver in each event. The season calculation is the result of adding the finish position points, dropping the lowest score then adding the bonus points earned.

Driver A and Driver B are tied for the season points. Their drop points would be looked at to break the tie, Driver A dropped the 2nd race of the year with 54 points, Driver B dropped his 3rd race of the year with 54 points. since their dropped points are equal the highest finish position in the last race would break the tie, Driver A, having come in 4th over Drive b finishing 5th would be named the class champion.

Driver F was disqualified from the first race. The minus 2 points must be kept and his dropped race becomes a 0.

Driver D did not enter all of the events for the season. His drop race is also 0 and he does not receive the season entry bonus points.

Driver C paid the entry for each race but did not grid at the 8/1 race. He receives no finish position points for that event but does get the season entry bonus points.
